International Development Research Institute

International Development Research Institute(IDRI) was established as a part of FASID in October 1992 for the purposes of 1) carrying out researches on important policy issues concerning development and aid through a network of researchers from Japan and abroad, 2) publishing those research outcomes, and 3) organizing forums and study group meetings to promote the exchange of latest research outcomes and interaction among researchers.

IDRI launched the Development Strategy Research Program (DSRP) in October 2000 in order to explore requisite development strategies for developing countries and to inquire economic environment and socio-political mechanism that need to be considered in formulating strategies. DSRP promotes both academic research conducted by the faculties of FASID/GRIPS Joint Graduate Program, and pragmatic research carried out by the professionals and researchers who are familiar with the trend of development issues and aid agencies in order to reflect them in policy and practice of development assistance.

IDRI also puts emphasis on researches on policy evaluation methods and aid cooperation which have become increasingly important in the field of international development.

Moreover, IDRI established "Okita Prize" for international development research in 1997 in memory of the late Prof. S. Okita to recognize excellent studies and to encourage researches which would meet increasingly diversified demands in the field of international development.

Additionally, IDRI promotes digitized information of research outcomes and actively contribute to the establishment of a network of researchers, research institutions and implementing agencies, and information sharing.
