Even though many technical assistant projects have been making various efforts searching for the sustainability of development effects after the termination of their interventions, we see not a few projects result in failing in maintaining these effects which were appeared successfully during the project period.

Mr. Uzawa participated in the “Project on Sokoine University of Agriculture Centre for Sustainable Rural Development” from 2002 to 2006. In this project, he supported the local people so that they can autonomously work on the various activities for the rural development. That project kept the 3 principles in their implementation; 1) not to bring in as much as possible what they need from outside (from development partner side), 2) to rediscover, restore and utilize the local resources, and 3) to learn from the knowledge and experience of the local people.

After the termination of the technical assistance by JICA, the local people who were involved in this project, still now continue and deepen their activities, and internalize the effect, and also work on various problems in the village autonomously.

The BBL seminar will present the various activities of the local people who were involved in this Project, and will offer the opportunity to consider the way of rural development supported by the external intervention of the development partners.

If you would like to attend the seminar, please email us at bbls@fasid.or.jp your name, affiliation, email address, phone number and questions for the speakers (if any) no later than Tuesday 8th January, and bring your own lunch to the seminar.
